Bringing a new baby home is a big deal. Everything changes: your routines, your sleep, your sense of time. And yet, somehow, it is also filled with the most tender, fleeting moments. That is what I am here to capture.
Not just the baby’s toes (though yes, I love those), but your whole world right now. Messy, emotional, beautiful. A documentary newborn session is less about perfect outfits and more about a real connection. It is about how you are all learning from each other, but most importantly, it is about you becoming a parent.

When I photograph a newborn session, I come to you, your home, and a safe space. You do not need to go anywhere, clean anything, or dress anyone up unless you want to. I am not bringing props, and I am not putting your baby in a basket. I am simply showing up to witness what is already there.
Washington DC Newborn Photographer
As a documentary newborn photographer based in Washington DC, I work with families all across the area. From Capitol Hill apartments to Takoma homes to cozy row houses in Petworth. Each session is different because each family is different. That is the beauty of it.
Your home becomes part of the story: the bassinet by the bed, the way your partner tucks in the swaddle, the couch where you have all been camped out for days. These little things are part of your baby’s beginning and part of your parenthood journey, too.

I am not just here to photograph your baby. I am here to document you, like your hands learning how to hold them, the circles under your eyes say you have been loving them all night long, the way you both look at each other now. Like something sacred has shifted.
You are not the same people you were before this baby arrived. And that deserves to be remembered too.

During the session, I gently guide you toward the best light in your home, but mostly I step back and let life happen. I am paying attention to the small, beautiful moments. The ones you may not even realize are happening. You feed your baby. You change a diaper. Someone laughs or cries. It is all part of it.
These are the kinds of photos that do not just show what your baby looked like. They show what it felt like to be here, in this brand new chapter, together.
When To Book A Newborn Photographer
The best time to book your newborn session is before your baby arrives. Ideally, during your second or early third trimester. That way, we can reserve a flexible time frame around your due date and adjust as needed once the baby is here.
That said, there is no too late. If your baby is already home and you are suddenly realizing you want to capture this season, reach out. I have photographed babies at three days old, and I have photographed families with eight-week-olds still deep in the newborn fog. Documentary sessions work beautifully at every stage.
There is no rush. No perfect timing. Just a desire to remember what it really looked like.

And here is the thing. The photos get more valuable with time. One day, your baby will ask what it was like when they came home. And instead of saying, “I do not even remember,” you will have proof. Proof of your love, your effort, your beginning as a family.

So if you are thinking about a newborn session, I want you to know that there is no pressure here. You do not need to prep or plan. You just need to be there. With your baby. And with whatever this season looks like for you. I will take care of the rest.
Because this is not just about photographs of your newborn. It is about everyone’s story. Yours too. I am here to document your journey into the world as a family, and your own becoming, as parents. And that story deserves to be told exactly as it is.
